I must admit, the fist time I heard the term Christian Coaching I was both cautious and intrigued. After all, what is the point? I believe strongly in the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. Is it not He who teaches, empowers, directs, and gives us the wisdom to accomplish all we are called to do in scripture?
I think a bit of this naïve understanding comes from previous Christian experience. Not that the Spirit does not do all this and more but God is also in the habit of using people (He really does love us).
My journey has taken me places I pray others do not have to follow. As I read and grow, I see my journey much like that of the apostle Paul (not that I would liken myself to him) in that it has been somewhat lonely; I have had to grow and learn and struggle mostly on my own. To be honest this has made me a little less trusting than I should. The idea of a Christian coach coming along side to help me in my journey was one I did not readily welcome. But…. God has a way of turning a person in the direction He knows is best and I ended up reaching out to a wonderful, Godly man who helped me more than I thought at the time. This was the beginning of my own coaching journey; seeing the difference a coach can make.
Life is short and full of surprises. I am glad to have made the connection that day as I see how much a little help, a little nudge in the right direction can make and am truly blessed by it.
Sometimes it takes the wisdom of a Godly person with nothing to gain, who knows little about you to offer the Godly advice you need to overcome any issue whether it be an issue of character, finances, relationships, or life goals. They are all spiritual matters to God and therefore us and that is the real point.
